Hey, there sports fans, Al here with the latest:
So the world seems to be in the grip of an Icepocalyse - 2021. It reached forth with its icy grip across the world with sickening speed. And unfortunately taken about twenty defenseless people in Texas from the world.
My heart goes out to them.
Here in the Northwest and though in the past we have had wintery conditions. But it seemed to me that everybody here that were so many that were surprised that it even happened.
Well because of this situation I can only chime in on how it affected me. And trust me it did.
From an artist point of view this situation
So yeah the freeze after the freeze and what that means that I was unable to get home to post my new blog about Al Williamson and the inspiration he’s given to me and actually in the three days that I was put up in a hotel or far from home but that was close to work I was able to give that a little bit more thought and how Williamson impacted me in a major way. That will be followed up soon.
However, I should say because of the volume of snow and ice that collected for a three-day stint that I was allowed to be able to work on another story in those three days as it turns out when I’m away from home I always take artwork with me or sketchbook or both. And I am always dabbling into something new. In this particular case, I’ve been working on "Strange Space" which is refined pencil drawings over the top of my thumb rough red thumbnails and making it into an actual comic book page and story.
So the biggest thing is I didn’t want people to think that I was just being lazy and not doing a blog post of the Williamson's inspiration page is already done but there are a few things left to do on it however I am going to post this one show progress that’s been taken place actually for about the last month or so from the thumbnails in the rough storyline that I’ve outlined.
I’ve been studying the art style of Alex Nino from the 1970s run on both the Warner magazines both like in "1994", "1984" as well as heavy-metal and some of the DC "Weird War Tales" and "House of Secrets" and "House of Mystery" all of those have great Alex Nino artwork in his page layouts and breakdowns are fantastic I wish I had been able to find his "Space Voyagers" strip that he been working on a while back and I would’ve picked up those, except that stuff is in but I’ve only been able to find that online.
Currently, there are roughly about 30 some odd pages of what I call re-drawn pages for strange space and that’s that weird mix of I don’t know space Jesus or an intended space, Jesus, a little bit of the "Prince of Darkness" movie from John Carpenter and a mix of "The Planet of the Vampires" mixed in with the movie "Lifeforce" put that into a mental blender and then see what comes up out of it with just a touch of Egyptian mythology and there you go.
Anyway that’s gonna be up for this particular block I got to get this one up and going for this afternoon and then get back to actual real work around the house and everything so there’s my dabble into the strange space that is my mind and this kid is out of here
